Oh my, doesn’t time just fly?! Until recently, I had not realised that nearly a year has passed since I last posted an article to my blog. Let me give you a mini update!
Life with teenagers, work and domestic goddess duties makes for a crazy, BUSY life! I still manage to squeeze in crochet time – it keeps me sane – and you can see a lot of what I worked on over the past year on my Instagram account.
The Covid-19 pandemic is a pretty scary event, so I’m fortunate that I’ve got crochet to help keep me calm. With the lockdown, I’ve had quite a bit more free time and currently have 3 projects in progress – all of which I’d been wanting to do for well over a year, if not two.
The first project is the Persian Tiles by Janie Crow in the Eastern Jewels Colourway by Lucia Dunn of Lucia’s Fig Tree. I’m nearly done, with only triangle edges and corners remaining before I join together and do the border. A thoroughly enjoyable project that I’ll be repeating. This first make is for my soul sister in the USA. The next one will be for our home.
The original Persian Tiles paper pattern is available for purchase on Janie Crow’s website with a digital version available to purchase on Ravelry. It does not include the Eastern Jewels yarn substitutions – it is only available with the purchase of the Eastern Jewels Yarn Pack. I purchased my kits from Wool Warehouse in the UK.
The second project is the Painted Pixels blanket pattern by Susan of The Felted Button. This blanket is for my daughter, who quite literally, paints with pixels. She does a lot of computer drawing using a Wacom tablet, and my goodness, is she talented! My daughter chose a lovely mix of colours. This one is quite a big project – 750 5cm (2″) squares. The square pattern is easy to memorise and is nice to work when sitting in front of the TV, with the husband, in the evenings.
The pattern is available to purchase directly from Felted Button’s shop, Ravelry or Etsy.
My third project is the Rainbow Sampler Blanket CAL by Kirsten of Haak Maar Raak. Another fabulous pattern, full of lovely textures and stitches that I’ve not worked before. I adore Kirsten’s palette, however I have a fairly sizeable stash that needs reducing so I opted to use yarns I already have.
My version is a mix of a colours my son, daughter and husband chose for blankets I’ve made, in the process of making or will be making, as well as shades I quite like. This is working up beautifully, and the pattern releases on Wednesdays give me another thing to look forward to during the lockdown. Kirsten doesn’t give too much to do each week, so it is easy to keep up.
The pattern in weekly instalments is free on Kirsten’s blog. The CAL is 11 weeks long, with the final part of the pattern released on 15 July 2020. We’ve just started week 4 so it is not too late to join – lots of people are yet to start (they are waiting on yarn arrivals) while others, who purchased the full PDF pattern from Kirsten’s Haak Maar Raak shop or Ravelry store, have already finished. And there are the ‘tweeners like me, who bought the pattern but like working the parts as Kirsten releases them on her blog. It is a nice pace which allows me to swap between the Tiles and Pixels project.
So that is it for now! I am fairly active on Instagram so if you like looking at colourful pictures of all things yarny and want to see what I’m up to, give me a follow. In the meantime, y’all stay safe and well!
